Dr. Brian Stark is a saxophonist based in Urbana, IL. Stark’s work uses jazz-inspired improvisation techniques to explore repertoires as diverse as flamenco, R&B, and Old-Time Fiddle Tunes. He is the leader or co-leader of the Illinois Flamenco-Jazz Collective, the Fiddle-Sax Fusion Band, and the Gobbo-Stark Quartet, as well as a new quartet exploring the music of Bjørk. In addition to a vibrant career as performer, Dr. Stark is the Jazz Ensemble Director and Saxophone Instructor for the University of Illinois Springfield. He has given invited performances and research presentations in Minneapolis, Orlando, Chicago, Springfield, and New Orleans.
