Wes Morefield

Artist Statement

Wes Morefield learned dark room photography and discovered Alternative Photo Processes while studying at UNLV. He wants viewers to draw connections between themselves and their relationship with nature as well as our impact on the environment. After relocating back to Illinois, he continued using the photo-transfer process, but on found objects and wooden structures that he’s built. Wes uses song titles or lyrics to convey his message or motivation behind his pieces.

Bio / Description

Wes grew up in McLean County, IL, on his family’s farm, acquired an Associates Degree from Heartland Community College, in Normal IL. Then completed his Bachelor’s Degree at UNLV, in Las Vegas. While studying at UNLV, Wes did an unpaid internship with Vegas Seven magazine. His passion for documentary/nature photography ignited further while on a trip to Sequoia National Forest and learning of John Muir. Wes has 20+ years of construction and remodeling experience and has found ways to utilize those skills in his art process. He doesn’t shy away from hard work or lofty visions, including converting a grain silo into his wood working/studio space.
