Siti Mariah Jackson

Artist Statement:
For over thirty years I have branched out into many challenging mediums, from textile design, ceramic sculpture, acrylic, watercolors, mixed-media to oil painting. My work is not only inspired by my Malaysian exotic marine life, but equally influenced by the ever-changing seasons of the regional Midwest prairies and landscapes, historic buildings, American theaters, antique automobiles and vehicles. My Eastern heritage and Western influences have given me deeper strength and richness to my artworks. I consider my colorful and vibrant artwork to be representational rather than photo-realistic.
Bio / Description:

Malaysia is my homeland, where I earned a Textile Design and Art Teacher's Diploma from Mara Institute of Technology, Kuala Lumpur. During the 80s, I taught art professionally in public schools and at the Specialist Teacher’s Training Institute, Kuala Lumpur for seven years, and then I was appointed to be part of the Malaysian Art Examination Panel for Malaysian Schools. In 1986, I was awarded a Federal Teaching Scholarship to pursue a Master of Arts Degree (Art Education) at the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana, graduating in 1988. I married artist/Professor Billy Morrow Jackson and lived in Champaign.

In 2003, Billy and I co-authored a full-color art book entitled: On This Island: An Artistic View of Martha's Vineyard, commissioned by Spotlight Press, Champaign, Illinois, published in 2005. The book features over 75 original watercolor paintings of Martha's Vineyard and captures the life and spirit of the people. After my husband passed away, my life and artwork have been deeply affected by it. Later, I married artist Brian J. Sullivan.

In 2004, I became the founder of an art group called "International Artists Group" (IAG) of Champaign/Urbana. I was also elected as a member of International Women Artists Council (INWAC) based in Malaysia. Every two years the group travels to different countries to host "Her Presence In Colors" - Asian/International Women Artists Exhibition, art conference, tour, forum and workshops. In 2011, I received a "Community Builder Award" sponsored by the Asian American Cultural Center, University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana.

I won several art awards and was involved with community and commission art projects. I participated in numerous art exhibitions, locally, nationally, and worldwide as far as Japan, Korea, China, Vietnam, Singapore, Australia and England. More than 500 of my artworks are in private and public permanent collections throughout the world and the United States including the Illinois State Art Museum, Springfield, IL, (ACES) College of Agriculture, Consumer and Environment Science Library, University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana, IL, Office of the Mayor, The City of Champaign and The City of Urbana, IL, Washington Pavilion of Arts & Science, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas, Wright Museum of Art, Beloit College, Beloit, WI, Kedah State Art Gallery and Museum, Malaysia, Popoff and Cie Gallery, Paris France and Datang Fine Arts Gallery, Singapore. nike lunar forever 2 mens cheap shoes sale store
