Saturday, March 14, 2015 - 10:00am to Sunday, March 15, 2015 - 5:45pm
Gymnasium, Savoy Recreation Center 402 Graham Savoy, Illinois

We have an amazing line-up of artist vendors bringing their cool art and their craft items for you to purchase on March 14, 2015 at the Savoy Recreation Center!

With a requirement of at least 50% reuse materials used in each carefully crafted item, you will be delighted and impressed with the work for sale at this year’s show. Each year, our artists tell us that they are pleased with the responses they get from our community, the interest that is shown, the commitment to buy hand-made products and one-of-a-kind pieces. We are an art community and we can support hand-craft. Come out to the Hatch 2015 Art Fair!

Plato’s theory of pure forms introduces the idea that every object is related to an ideal version of itself through degrees of purity or perfection. Pure forms do not exist physically in our reality. All objects are related to their pure form. Geometric forms are a perfect instance of this concept in that the idea a perfect geometric form is vital our basic understanding of mathematics. However, in its translation from the conceptual to the physical the geometric form can never be perfect, it is only a referent to the perfect, or understood form. Even as such, geometric forms pervade the world of the scientific; existing to comprise the machinery and instruments which allow us to expand our knowledge and understanding.

Artworks occupy a similar conceptual space, where it is understood that they exist both as physical objects but also as references to a deeper meaning. This collection of works from the collection of Travis Hocutt, hopes to illuminate the ossilation of a work between object and conceptual place-holder.

Exhibit Description:
Quiltmaking is an integral and vital part of South Asian culture. Much the same as here in the West, quilts serve both functional and symbolic purposes. They provide warmth as well as a comfortable place to sit; and they also commemorate special occasions and tell the stories of the lives of their makers. The seams that bring together different pieces of fabric in a quilt also represent the seams that bring together this vast region—its people, its cultures, and its shared tradition of extraordinary textiles. This exhibition is made possible through funding from the Robert and Ardis James Foundation and the Nebraska Humanities Council & Nebraska Cultural Endowment. The Spurlock Museum’s changing exhibits are made possible through a gift from Allan C. and Marlene S. Campbell and supported in part by the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
The exhibit will be on display Tuesday, February 17–Saturday, August 1. The exhibit is open Museum hours: Tuesdays 12-5, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 9-5, Saturdays 10-4, and Sundays 12-4.
