Sudden Sound Concert: Renée Baker’s Quadtych

Thursday, September 20, 2018
Krannert Art Museum 500 East Peabody Drive Champaign, IL

Sudden Sound concerts feature leading artists in improvised music and the jazz avant-garde.

Renée Baker's Quadtych—Renée Baker (violin, viola), Karl E. H. Siegfried (bass), William Porter (cello), and Bruce Nelson (vibes, percussion)—expresses the polystylistic stylings of Picasso, the moody brooding of Rothko, the impatience of Pollock, and the sensuous passion of Anaïs Nin.

For this event, award-winning composer Renée Baker presents ICHOR BLACK for violin, cello, bass, and percussion, a comprovisation of composed structures, painted and graphic scores, and improvisation based on the opera THE BALDWIN CHRONICLES: NEGRO IDEOLOGIES.

This event is free, donations accepted, and open to the public. Please visit http://kam.illinois.edu for more information.

This concert is presented as part of Improvisers Exchange, a 2018–2019 initiative of the Center for Advanced Study. Additional sponsorship in part by the Center for Advanced Study, School of Music, with in-kind support provided by WEFT, 90.1 FM.Air Jordan 1
