Sunday, May 7, 2017 - 6:00pm to Monday, May 8, 2017 - 5:45pm
The Art Theater Co-op (126 W Church St., Champaign IL 61820)

The Illini Swing Society and The Art Theater Co-op are hosting a one-night special screening of the new swing dance revival documentary "Alive and Kicking"! Come see what swing dance is all about, and don't forget to bring some friends!

Born out of the Great Depression, swing dancing elevates the human spirit beyond one's circumstances as dancers can move to the beat for the sheer joy of it and disappear into something bigger, something dazzling, a space without a critic or a judge or an analyst. ALIVE & KICKING gives the audience an intimate, insider's view into the culture of the current swing dance world while shedding light on issues facing modern American society. (Susan Glatzer, 2017, US, 88 min, NR, DCP)

"It’s impossible to watch this film without a tapping toe and a smile." -The Seattle Times

"The dancers in Alive and Kicking all share a rapturous expression, and Glatzer makes the case for this Depression-era diversion as a modern tonic for isolation." -Village Voice

" ... the jaw-dropping improvisations and physical intimacy of the dancers make it an action film par excellence — joy-fueled and gravity-defying." -Los Angeles Times
