Cunningham Children’s Home - Spiritual Life Center

Cunningham Children’s Home’s Festival of Quilts joins the Boneyard Arts Festival this spring as one of more than 90 galleries showcasing the arts in Central Illinois. This year Cunningham is excited to present a collection of show quilts that creatively blur the lines between conventional quilt making and fine art. The 12th annual Festival of Quilts will also include a silent auction and quilt boutique as well as a gift shop, bake sale and the Patchwork Café.

The Boneyard is a four-day event which brings together area businesses, organizations, and artists while promoting the cultural vibrancy of our community. As the Festival of Quilts has grown and the quilts submitted for viewing have evolved it became obvious to all who help with the event that many of our local artists are sharing their artwork through quilts.

We invite you to join us on Friday and Saturday, April 8th and 9th, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to enjoy the colorful and diverse exhibit as well as the silent auction.

On Saturday, Erick Wolfmeyer, this year’s guest speaker, will share a collection of his fine art quilts, and the stories which brought him to quilting as a creative outlet. Erick’s work has been featured in numerous books and periodicals and has been exhibited through the US and China. With each new piece, Erick celebrates quilt-making as the perfect metaphor for an imperfect, but well-lived life.

To read more about Erick’s fascinating life and experiences as an artist visit our website, cunninghamhome.org.

Tickets are available at the door and are a $5.00 donation. All proceeds benefit children and youth served by Cunningham.

One of the great benefits of arts and cultural gatherings is their potential to bring us together in shared experiences and build community. And lest we forget, it is the capacity of our communities to endure difficulty, tragedy and challenge that allows us to grow in both understanding and broad acceptance of who we are and hence move us toward who and what we can be. Please bring your beautiful self.

Many items at the Bazaar are Asian or Asian inspired, but there are many from other cultures across the globe. Just a few of the things you will find: Asian pottery, kimonos, origami, handmade crafts (our interns have been hard at work), traditional American quilts, scrolls, books, prints, matcha tea and tea equipment, jewelry, and gift certificates for tea ceremonies or yukata dressing events for you and your friends.

You’ll even be able to order holiday pies from Cream & Flutter (Bourbon Pecan, French Apple or Pear Blueberry). They will not only give you a mini-pie when you order but also donate part of the cost to Japan House. Please do your holiday shopping in the beauty of Japan House! All funds raised by this event go to support the Japan House Internship Program. Our interns develop and coordinate student outreach programs and assist us in every way. We can’t imagine being without them—they are an incredible group. Please help us continue this important initiative by shopping at the Japan House Bazaar. We hope to see you!

On Tuesday, December 1, C4A will host TWO FREE Christmas Sing-Along events: one oriented toward families, and another with a more adult feel. Both are free--our “give back” to the community on Giving Tuesday. YOU are invited to join the fun, and--- if you feel inspired-–do a little giving of your own to help C4A with its mission to cultivate community through experiences with music. We’ll make it easy for you to donate online, on your phone, or using the old-fashioned cash or check method. (We are a 501 c3 organization, and your donation may be deductible.) The family event will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM in the food court at Urbana’s Lincoln Square Mall. Join us for singing, playing, face painting, and crafts. Everyone is welcome to help us decorate our life-sized Gingerbread House! Rick Murphy will lead the music: singers and instruments welcome! Our friendly elves will assist the kids at stations for coloring, making snowflakes, and creating your own Christmas cards. A relaxed event for grown-ups will follow from 7:30 to 9:30 PM at The Iron Post (at the corner of Race and Elm in downtown Urbana). Rick Murphy will lead from the piano for this session, too. All singers and instrumentalists are invited to join in. Paul will serve his special eggnog. We have set up a dropbox with FREE downloadable Christmas music.
