The Museum is collaborating with the UIUC Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies (CEAPS) and Asian American Cultural Center for a family Museum event to celebrate Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day. Gallery activity areas include a Chinese painting demonstration, a station where children can have their name written in Chinese and Japanese, and a station where children can create their own papercuts and see Chinese papercuts on display. The Museum will offer Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day crafts for visitors of all ages in the Zahn Learning Center. Admission is free. 1:00-4:00 pm.

Alexander's day begins with gum stuck in his hair, followed by more calamities. Though he finds little sympathy from his family and begins to wonder if bad things only happen to him, his mom, dad, brother, and sister all find themselves living through their own terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.
Through 2/3-2/5 Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day will be playing at the Virginia Theatre. All shows start at 7pm and all tickets are $4. Hope to see you there!

Experience one of the greatest escapes of the Underground Railroad. Actress Jennifer Goran will portray Ellen Craft, who escaped slavery in 1848 by posing as a white man, on Sunday, February 1 at The Urbana Free Library. The program also features Doug Peterson, author of the book "The Vanishing Woman", on which this production is based. For adults and children in grades 4 and up. FREE.

The Twin City Derby Girls will kick off the 2015 season with a home-opener against the McLean County Missfits from Bloomington, IL. Come out and cheer on TCDG's Alter Egos to victory!

Doors open at 5:30 and the action starts at 6:30. Tickets are $8. Pack of 4 - $24. Kids 8 & under are free!

We're celebrating the Library's 140th Birthday with our friends from the Boneyard Jazz Quintet. They are seasoned jazz players that play beloved jazz tunes that people know--Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, and more. The quintet plays a variety of styles (swing, Latin, ballads, etc). Stop by and enjoy some great music.

The Boneyard Jazz Quintet is Armand Beaudoin (bass and cello); Gary Peyton (drums); Morgan Powell (slide trombone); Randy Salman (Saxophone); Shab Wirtel (trumpet) and Donnie Heitler (piano).

Orpheum Children's Science Museum on 346 North Neil Street Champaign

Bring in your family for the annual Noon Day Drop Celebration at the Orpheum where you and your kids can celebrate the New Year at noon! Everyone will be decked out with party hats and noise makers as sounds of the season float through the air. Noon Day Drop includes craft activities, music, crazy hats, noise makers, a countdown to the big event, and a drop of more than 4000 balloons at the strike of noon. On top of that,some balloons will be filled with prizes donated by our community partners!

The event is located at the Orpheum Children's Science Museum on 346 North Neil Street Champaign next to Kofusion. Admission is $6 for members, $8 nonmembers, or a family 4-pack for $28.
