The Champaign-Urbana Folk & Roots Festival is an annual event that promotes the folk arts and contributes to the artistic vitality of central Illinois. As a venue sponsor, The Urbana Free Library is pleased to participate in this vibrant community event. All festival events at the Library are FREE and will take place in the Lewis Auditorium, Busey-Mills Reading Room, and Satterthwaite Conference Room.

Folk tales, stories of the human condition, trials and tribulations, love lost and found, and journeying on the quest, have been passed down through the generations from teller to listener. Join storyteller Anne Shimojima as she shares tips on how to learn and tell a folk tale. Anne brings 30+ years of storytelling experience to this fast-paced hour of both theory and practice.

This is the CU Spinners and Weavers Guild annual Show and Sale! Patrons can expect a variety of the highest quality handmade goods including handspun yarn, woven, knitting and crocheted garments, needle and wet felted garments and sculptures, handwoven baskets, dyed textiles and much more. The sale includes demonstration activities in additional to the sale of guild members’ work each fall. A small percentage of the profit goes to the guild in order to fund future programs. This years Show and Sale will take place:

Coming to you for our fourth year, Magic and Other Nonsense is the C-U's only annual magical variety show.

This year we will be featuring the talents of author, historian and magician, William Pack. The incredible slieght of hand artistry of Tony Dowell. The zany antics of Toto, and more to be announced soon! Starring, and hosted by local magician Markus Clegg.

The Chris Cringle Arts & Crafts Show is one of the Midwest's largest craft shows, featuring 150 booths displaying a wide variety of handcrafted items by local and area artists, as well as artists from all over the Midwest. A rest area and refreshments are available. Illinois Heartland Decorative Artist sponsors a raffle featuring a holiday quilt, painted and piece by our members. Tickets for the raffle are $1 each or 6 for $5. Proceeds from our show support our many projects, including art student scholarships, Memorial 4-H Camp, Decorative Arts Collections, memory boxes for hospitals, sponsoring families through the Department of Children and Family Services, area food banks, seminars, demonstrations, displays and a weekend retreat.

Matsuri is the Japanese word for festival. Join us for our first Matsuri and kick off the fall semester here at Japan House within the University of Illinois Arboretum. Come for an afternoon of Japanese and Asian inspired food, drinks, crafts, demonstrations, and performances. Purchase of tickets are needed for food and drink.They will be available at Japan House. There will be drum performances by Ho Etsu Taiko and tea ceremonies by Urbana-Champaign Association of Chado Urasenke Tankokai. There will be martial arts demonstrations, garden tours of the Japan House gardens, bonsai and ikebana displays and tea bowl making by Jason Armour. Some of our participating restaurants will be Cream & Flutter, Flying Machine Coffee, JT Walker's, Kona Ice, Michaels' Catering, Miga, Pandamonium Doughnuts and Pizza M.
